    Team intervention stirs emotions

Kenny Mixon and Kevin Williams stood in front of their Vikings teammates Wednesday and took responsibility for adding unnecessary off-field distractions to a team struggling on the field.

Many of their teammates believe the emotional 80-minute meeting Wednesday morning might help Mixon personally and the team professionally. Several players said the raw tone of the session was a needed igniter for the team's on-field problems. The Vikings' four-game losing streak has been overshadowed this week by the off-field problems of Mixon and Williams, a rookie of the year candidate. The defensive ends were arrested for driving under the influence.

Williams' arrest is being blamed on immaturity and a mistake, but there is concern about Mixon, whose arrest was his third for driving under the influence since July 2002. He was convicted once and acquitted of the other.
