The NFL's all-time leading rusher spent part of Thursday's practice working with the scout team for one of the league's worst teams. And he smiled about it afterward.

The Cardinals upgraded Emmitt Smith from doubtful to questionable for Sunday's game against St. Louis at Sun Devil Stadium, meaning there's a 50-50 chance he will play.

It was Smith's second consecutive day of practice, and it marked the first time he had taken a hit since suffering a fractured left scapula Oct. 5 at Dallas.

"I'm getting back healthy and feeling pretty good about where I'm at," he said.

Smith, however, dodged a question about whether he felt healthy enough to play Sunday.

"That ain't my call," said Smith, who signed a two-year, $7.5 million deal with the team in the off-season.

The Cardinals (3-7) could use him. Starter Marcel Shipp is expected to play, but he hasn't practiced this week because of swollen bursa sacs near his elbows and a sore knee. Damien Anderson took most of the snaps with the first team Thursday.

Pretty much. He would have made some big money had he stayed in Dallas so they released him
