The horseshoe remains firmly ensconced in the collective backside of Tom Brady [news] and the Patriots [stats, news].

On a day when the Patriots made enough mistakes to lose two games, never mind one, they managed to pull out another improbable, heart-stopping win when all seemed lost. Don't you know by now? Brady and the Patriots just don't lose close games.

Overcoming three turnovers, a half-dozen dropped passes, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal, the Pats posted a 23-20 victory over the Texans at Reliant Stadium on Adam Vinatieri [news]'s 28-yard field goal with 41 seconds left in overtime.

There weren't any victory celebrations in the postgame locker room, even though the win was the seventh straight for the Pats, who went to 9-2 for the first time in franchise history. A huge game looms at Indianapolis Sunday, and the Pats know they won't be able to get away with a similar performance.

``The (postgame mood) was really different from all other victories,'' Rodney Harrison [news] said. ``We know that we really got away with one. You're proud of the fight in the team, but you're disappointed in the way things went down. We can't do that. We have to be better.''
