Here's the weird thing about Jim Fassel: Although it's virtually a foregone conclusion that he'll be fired after the season, the Giants won't find anyone with as good a resume as the guy they're showing the door.
Tom Coughlin? No Super Bowl appearance like Fassel. Dennis Green? A bunch of division titles, but no Super Bowl run, either. It was Green's Vikings who were thumped, 41-0, by Fassel's Giants in the 2000 NFC Championship Game. LSU's Nick Saban? Hasn't been a head coach in the NFL. Same with Kirk Ferentz of Iowa. Ditto for Patriots coordinators Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis, Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon and Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress. And any other coordinator or position coach out there.
Unless two-time Super Bowl winner Jimmy Johnson decides to stop yakking on TV and fishing in the Florida Keys, there's no one out there with Fassel's credentials.
