Was the shocking release of nickel cornerback/kick returner Derek Ross a message to other players, or simply a last-straw move by the Cowboys?
Considering Ross' checkered past and coach Bill Parcells' concerns about his team's immaturity and ability to focus heading into the final month of the season, it was probably a little bit of both.
"He wasn't part of our plans for the future," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "The thing I can say is that this move had everything to do with this year, these games. We made the move because we felt our team would be improved."
Ross was unavailable for comment. His agent, Braylen Edwards, declined to comment.
