our defense is no doubt good this year, but imo they lack the emotion and intensity of the 1999 D. 1999's D was dominating...

I agree- the 99 D was much better and much more intense. That season, I remember being more relaxed when we were on D then when we had the ball.

and teams were intimidated by the 99 D. Not so this year.

In some ways that may work to our advantage- I think this year's D has caught some offenses off guard. I'm sure the Giants expected more than 20 yards from Tiki Barber last week, and I don't think pretty-boy Pennington expected to spend the entire game on the carpet today.

I think the game v.s. the Doll phyns this year was the best our D has played so far.

Yeah everyone sold the Bills D short after that game- "Ricky Williams gained 105 yards" but they fail to mention that it took him 40 ****** carries. That's a terrible average for a so-called "premier" running back. The damn janitor is going to get 100 yards if he runs that many times.

These last 2 weeks, I think our D has played amazing. Before these last 2 weeks, I thought we were overrated, but they're starting to grow on me now.

However, that 99 team never seemed to have any bad games on D (maybe I just don't remember any). This year, our D has had a few stinkers.

Yeah, but our D had like 5 or 6 new fulltime starters this year - obviously we were going to have our growing pains here and there.

I hate having to say this while the season is still going, but I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, can't wait til next year. Hopefully next year I won't be saying this until after the superbowl.

The problem with "next year" is that they will most likely be starting over with a whole new system. Unless LeBeau gets the job.

I'm not sold on our defensive system. They always seem to be successful dispite the system.

They are similar in that they can both be smothering, yet dont create many turnovers. This defense could possibly be better than 1999, when you consider how much they have been on the field, and how many 3 and outs they have had to contend with. In 1999 we at least had a decent offense.
