I just saw it on TSN- Interesting concept- 2 feet wide lines

I Guess its to help those blind refs make better "offsides"/"2 Line pass" calls

What would the pluses and minuses to this? Right off the bat, It would cut down on offsides. Any other observances?

why don't they try moving the nets back to where they were pre-Gretzky. they could keep the attack zone the same size and increase the size of the neutral zone...who wants to see all that play behind the net anyway??

If you knew anything about hockey you'd know that net placement has nothing to do with neautral zone play and the trap.

Guess that phd let ya down this time, eh?

whatever... the concept here is that if you are looking for more room in the neutral zone and don't want to increase the size of the ice the other option is to push the nets back...

no, you're right, I've never discussed this with guys who actually have played hockey or anything...

Cuts down on icing (unless players push the limits again)

And it allows for longer passes to help break the trap

Bob McKenzie had a segment on this on TSN last night. He also said the Lowell Loch Monsters of the AHL were asked to experiment in their practices with a radically different offsides- "Ballhockey rules"

Basically, normal rules for offsides when you first gain the opposition's attack zone. But once onsides is established, then for the defense to clear the zone, they have to push the puck past the center ice line, not the blue line. So if you are on defense, you can'yt rely on just getting the puck out past hte blue line to force the other teams to clear the zone and start fresh.

They should put all the guys on the ice at once.

I don't know if I like the concept of making the nets bigger.

turn the clock back on the offside rule and let them have the two-line pass. problem solved.

The trap started because of bad offside rules.

Get rid of offsides all together. Let em cherry pick.

Put delayed offsides back in the game and allow a cycled forecheck. That's when all this trouble started.

How about a 3-point line or giving up a single point on a touchback :shakeno:

what's with the sarcasm Doug? You like the current offside rule? You like the fact they can't come back to onside and then go back in? You like the trap, that boring sit-back-and-wait style?

I love hockey because it's hockey, but it can be improved.

While you're at it you should add the ringette line into the mix.

All I'm gonna say is there's two sides to hockey, offense and defense. Always has been, always will.
