    Hockey Question

How come in regular season games they don't play until a team wins? And, why don't they play sudden death? The first team to score wins.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm still learning. :) Thanks in advance for your responses. :)

I would guess one of the reasons is because the 82-game schedule is grueling enough without adding long overtimes to it.

Then why not play the sudden death rule? First team to score in overtime wins. I've seen overtime games where one team scores and yet they still play the entire period. And sometimes it ends up in a tie. I just don't get it.

I'm going to a hockey game tomorrow night and I'm trying to cram for my hockey test. lol

I though hockey did have sudden death. Was there a rule change?

Overtime in regular season is one five-minute period, four skaters per side, sudden death.

Jaded, overtime in hockey is always sudden death. In the playoffs though, they play full periods with five skaters rather than five minutes, and play until someone wins. Those games can take hours and hours.

Tie's are one of the reason why the NHL isn't interesting as it could be. I heard that they want to make it 3 points for a win, 2 points for an overtime win and no points for overtime lose.

Me like. I've loathed the idea of giving a point for an OT loss since it started. A loss is a loss, right? It should net 0 points. It's the giving of 1 point to both teams as soon as they reach OT that gives the mentality of "play to stay tied".

I think they should bring back the death in sudden death.

Skate till ya die is kinda like playing a 20 inning baseball game. After a few innings, the players really don't care and just wanna go home.

However, 10 minutes, 4 on 4 would be sweet.

I didn't realize that overtime was only 5 minutes. How come they don't play a full period for overtime?

                        Hockey is very confusing!
