    Lions make NFL history for road game futility

    The Lions took their place in the National Football League’s record book by doing what they do best — losing on the road.

    For the 24th consecutive time away from home, Detroit lost a game, this time in the form of a 20-14 setback to the Carolina Panthers.

    “It hasn’t been fun,” said Lions Coach Steve Mariucci, who is responsible for eight of the 24 losses. “It’s been difficult even to discuss it week after week.”

    Entering Sunday’s game, the Lions shared the record with the Houston Oilers, who lost 23 straight from 1981-84.
