How do you become a scout? does anyone know? What kind of degree you need or what some qualifications are?

1st: It helps to know someone in the business

2nd: Either set up your own draft website or newsletter or publication with your comments on players eligible for the draft

3rd: Contact teams and submit your work to them

having a background as an ex-player helps, especially with contacts.

I dunno if you can just break right into the NFL like that if you don't have contacts already. If you don't have any, try coaching in high school and working at some summer camps to make the connections.

Hey Butch!!!

I wonder if a person could gain any credibility sort of freelancing it for a while?

Prove you know what you're doing. Provide a tip or two to a few teams. Etc.

A few guys who have draft sites/newsletters have been hired by NFL teams.

Cool, I would love to get credibility by doing a personal site.

26,

Since what's required is experience and then credibility due to performance, I wonder if a team would take you as an unpaid intern? If you had any kind of sports experience and perhaps a Masters or even 4-year in Sports Admin., then you might be able to get your foot in the door somewhere offering to do an an unpaid internship.

Just some thoughts I had while driving around today...

That would probably be the easiest way to break in. The guy from NFLdraft.net did that and got hired as a scout. I have heard of other web sites who have landed a scouting job as well.

I actualyl ont he advice of my father wrote a letter addressed to the GM of the Falcons and I got a personal reply back. It said that he would like to see any proof of my scouting abilities. So now I gotta create a website.
