As much as coach Mike Sherman would like to have Brett Favre get in a full week of practice, he has left it up to the Green Bay Packers quarterback to decide how long he needs to be with his grieving family.

Favre flew with his wife, Deanna, to Kiln, Miss., after the Packers' 41-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders Monday night so he could attend the funeral of his father, Irvin, who died Sunday of a heart attack.

Sherman left Favre's return open-ended, figuring he knew exactly how much work he needed for the Packers' game Sunday against the Denver Broncos. After the game, Favre told offensive coordinator Tom Rossley that he would return Friday morning and be available to practice Friday and Saturday.

"I think it's important that he does what he has to do," Sherman said. "I trust he'll make a good decision in regard to his family first and then in regard to his teammates and his team and this game coming up here.
