Big Blue's Search Still Looks Cloudy

One down, more to come. Tom Coughlin has already been interviewed for the Giants coaching job and will be talked to again down the road. Up next, Giants ownership will place calls to the Patriots and Rams, asking permission to speak with New England coordinators Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel, and St. Louis defensive coordinator Lovie Smith.
The rest of this week, however, will be quiet on the coaching front, with Christmas serving as a respite from the grind and tension sure to exist in the days to come. While we have the time, let's clear up a few misconceptions:

    * Coughlin is the favorite. Yes, but that is not exactly the way the process works. GM Ernie Accorsi and executive vice president John Mara haven't put the former Jaguars coach at the top of the list, waiting for someone to knock him off. Other candidates don't have to out-do Coughlin, they simply have to sell themselves. This doesn't mean Coughlin won't get the job, because he probably will.
