The Bears announced Monday that after watching the Paris Hilton sex tape, they have credited Brian Urlacher with four more tackles. That's the joke going around covering both of the side issues attached to Urlacher this year: his connection to Hilton and his tackle totals.
More than a quarter of Urlacher's tackles this season have come the day after games. A game ends on Sunday afternoon, and Urlacher has been given credit for, say, seven tackles. And then the next day, the Bears announce that after watching film of the game, he actually had 256. Or so it seems.
"Pretty good, isn't it?'' Urlacher said Sunday, when I asked him about this. "I like how it ends up.''
Truth is, the Elias Sports Bureau, official statistician of the NFL, ranks Urlacher 21st in the league with 109 tackles. The Bears, after viewing the film from each game, say he has 146.
What gives?
