THE HUDDLE REPORT

Kenechi Udeze DE USC

Strengths
Kenechi is very strong and powerful. He has good size and three things that will serve him well in the NFL. Long legs, long arms and long on brains, too. He is well schooled on the different moves that are required for success in the NFL. His run techniques are excellent because if his strength. His strength is more natural. He does not have to wear himself out pumping iron during the season.

Needs to improve
Kenechi needs to improve the use of his hands to disengage from the blocker faster. Right now, he is just overpowering everyone. In the NFL, linemen are bigger and just as strong as he is.

Bottom Line
Kenechi reminds me a lot of Bruce Smith. He has the same long arms and long legs. He is not as quick but much more powerful. Kenechi does his pass rush just a little bit different from most DE’s. His first step is slow, but his second step is fast and powerful. This is not the style used by the new situational speed rushers in the NFL, so you might think that he is not a speed rusher, but he is. His first step is used to engage the lineman and set up his second step. Personally, I think that the name Kenechi Udeze means “Kick your ass”, because that's what he does to his opponents. An absolute 1st rounder.

After watching him in the Rose Bowl.....all I can say is wow. And in a draft that doesn't have 4 DE ranked in the first round, he probably will go early.

i still think will smith and pollack go before him... he may be a guy that we would trade down and still get... if you think we should go DE in the first.. i am not sure that is the right choice.. i think personally that tells kelsay and denny that we have no faith in them.. w/ denny, that might not be bad.. but kelsay has plenty of promise left.

will smith is still rated higher and would be the better pick...

I watched Will play Michigan and he had one tackle and that not for a loss. Udeze tore apart the Michigan line, no one could block him. I think Udeze could go before Will.

I don't think the have to concern themselves with anyone of these three guys in the first round, they have bigger needs then adding another DE.

you never know.. i just realized that td may be thinking of the fact that Schobel is a FA after this upcoming season.

i actually think will smith is better than pollack.. i have no faith that pollack will be anything at all.. he has been completely unimpressive in ever game i have ever watched him in.. (maybe 5 games total).

It seems like we have a lot of FA coming up after this season - I think Jennings, Clements, Schoebel, and Sullivan are all FA's, plus I think there's others that I can't remember.

Does this mean that after this year, we have to make the decision to go for gold (and cap hell) or rebuild again?

Are you serious? They credit him with onlyl ike 4.5 sack but has 80 something tackles 2 int's 20 something pressures and some others will have to pull it up later.

I think TD will definitely resign Schobel, he is a stricky player and that may lower the price tag for him.

I was under the impression that Smith was small enough that he could go the linebacker route.

clements has 2 more years left.. he was a first round pick.. and i think jennings will be a RFA after this year, but i could be off on that one. pat williams is up next year too, along with sam adams.

i just dont think he is a good pass rusher.. he didnt show much speed, power or moves.. i would be extremely extremely disappointed if we drafted him.

schobel will NOT be cheap.. 6.5, 8.5, and 11.5 sacks in his first three years is very good.. and if he hits 15 or more this year, he will cost a fortune.

I guess but I think differently on "Motor" type players. I see them as if they are going all out on every play then they can make something happen and will be around something that will happen. That's just my opinion though.

If the sacks came in 8-10 games then he would be something....but I think he got those sacks in less than 6 games, that means there are 10 OTs that kept him off the board this year. That is too stricky for a big payday. If he get 10 or more next year and they aren't all bunched up, then I think he will get paid mucho mullah.

Streaky? Yeah it is but when him and his agent discuss his stats they aren't going to ask how he got those sacks just how many.

i agree.. they will just look at the bottom line.. did he break 10 sacks a year.. consistently..

If I were TD, I'd have a hard time talking top 5 average DE salary for Schobel. He'd really need to show me more than just the 10 sacks a year.

All I know is they better sign schobel when his contract is up he has been a bright spot on the D every he has played here. One thing you know is that you are 110% out of every time he hits the field.
