Another team might be OUT of the Fassel sweepstakes....

Another major domino in the NFL's coaching carousel appears to be close to falling into place as Dennis Green and officials from the Arizona Cardinals met again Tuesday, with the Cardinals making an opening offer to Green Tuesday night, a league source said.

Negotiations between Arizona and Green's agent, Gary O'Hagan, are ongoing, and could produce an agreement as early as Wednesday morning.

Green, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach, last week was the first candidate interviewed by Cardinals officials, and he has been the team's No. 1 choice from the outset of its coaching search, which began after Arizona dismissed Dave McGinnis on Dec. 29.

Determined to land their top candidate, Cardinals vice presidents Michael Bidwill and Rod Graves on Tuesday morning flew to San Diego, where Green lives, to interview him a second time and allow both sides to get more comfortable with one another.

No offer was made by Michael Bidwill and Graves in that session, the league source said, but the pair spent most of the day with Green and then flew back to Arizona to brief Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill and endorse Green as their choice. The elder Bidwill authorized the team's initial offer to Green, and contract negotiations with O'Hagan cranked to life Tuesday evening.

EXACTLY! Maybe that is what TD is waiting for. He leaked to AZ and Wash that he was working on a contract with Fassel and that they shouldnt even bother, so they went their own way. Now, it all blows up in Fassel's face and he might have to come to Buffalo WITHOUT making $3 million a year.

Green is Dumb if he goes there. What other team in the NFL is that much under the cap? NOT ONE! Bidwell is a tool and doesn't deserve to own a NFL franchise if he is going to do it on the cheap! I feel for the Arizona fans, all 20 of em since Bidwell and his tight stringed purse came to the state they have won under 30 games.

Actually, the rumor is that the only way to get Green to come to Arizona is that he wants full control of the player personnel and that Bidwell is looking into giving him it, or at least a majority of power. If you give Green the GM powers to Arizona with all that cap money to spend, he would be in a dream.

Here's an update from a Chris Mortensen chat at ESPN.com...

Christian (Friday Harbor,WA): Mort, do you think the Cards have a good chance of landing Denny Green? Also, any talk of them trading up to land Eli Manning? I can't imagine they are sold on Josh McCown.

Chris Mortensen: (12:33 PM ET ) I would expect Green will be named today as coach of the Cardinals...unless something falls apart.

If that's the case, does anyone think the Cards could make a turnaround like the Bengals did? I've got a feeling that's exactly what Bidwell hopes if he's finally willing to let someone else run the football operations.
