For the third straight day Buffalo will interview a candidate for the vacant head coaching job. This time, Bills President and General Manager Tom Donahoe will meet with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.......After spending five seasons as the team's tight ends coach, Mularkey was promoted to offensive coordinator January 5, 2001, taking over for current Bills offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride.
Although Pittsburgh's offense slipped to 22nd in the NFL rankings this year, the Steelers had been ranked in the top five in total offense the past two years under Mularkey.
In 2002, the Steelers improved to seventh in the NFL in passing offense, up from 21st the previous season, while maintaining their Top 10 ranking rushing. The team also produced two 1,000-yard receivers in Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress for the second consecutive season and for the first time in Steelers' history.
