It all comes down to the extreme care that must be exercised when NFL teams pursue college coaches.

As one veteran personnel exec told us, "You have to treat that whole scenario very differently then when dealing with a pro coach. [College coaches] have to recruit and you have to respect that. San Francisco did it the right way last year. You didn't hear a thing until [former Oregon State coach Dennis Erickson] was hired.

"Other colleges will use it against a school if the coach is in a public forum concerning a job," said the source. Saban could still be alive for Atlanta and Chicago and they only way you will find out he isn't, is if they hire someone else. The same goes for [Iowa's Kirk] Ferentz or Friedgen or any other high profile college coach. Despite denials by agents or the coaches themselves things could still be going on behind closed doors."

Mike, relax, deep breaths. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Repeat.
