Does it have a retractable roof?

Looks like a cool spot for football, and a big  for having an all grass field!

Man I remember when they started building that. I lived in H-town for about 4 years. I don't miss it I can tell you that :D.

I still root for the 'stros and the Rockets but I can't bring myself to root for anyone but the BILLS!

If any of you in Houston see my X-wife run her over for me

Home of the Houston Texans, Reliant Stadium was the first of its kind in the NFL, with a retractable roof when it opened in September 2002. Once the Oilers left for Nashville, a group including Bob McNair, got HOK sport to design a new retractable roof stadium, that could help lure a team back to Houston. In 1999, convinced by the Houston group, the NFL awarded the area a new franchise, the Houston Texans to begin playing in 2002. The Texans partnered with the Livestock Show and Rodeo in building a stadium. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new stadium, which is being built near the Astrodome, began in early 2000. The stadium will accommodate both football and rodeos. In October 2000, Reliant Energy purchased the naming rights, thus the facility was named Reliant Stadium.

The Houston Texans played their first regular season game at Reliant Stadium on September 8, 2002 against the Dallas Cowboys. Reliant Stadium has a capacity of around 69,000, in three main tiers of seats which enclose the field. A retractable roof was chosen for the stadium because of the late summer heat and because the stadium will host rodeos, which bring in an annual 2 million people. The roof consists of two sections that will meet over the 50 yard line when it is closed. When the roof is open, each section will be above the seats in the endzone. Reliant Stadium has many amenities including over 7,000 club seats, 166 luxury suites, club lounges and bars, and a Texans team store. Reliant Stadium will site of the 2004 Super Bowl.

Welcome, Expansion Blues. :) I, for one, am glad to have you on board. :) Don't let other posters discourage you from posting. You seem like a cool guy, even if you hate the Cowboys (they used to be my favorite team and I still like them). Anyway, enjoy the board! And good luck this year with the Texans, except this Sunday of course. ;)

Expansion,

I'm still working on tailgating options. The one I have an eye one is in the Blue lot also.

I'm bidding on Blue and Yellow lot passes on EBay, otherwise it's Metro for me.

I've heard you have to be kinda covert about drinking before noon on Sundays in Texas - what's your experience with that?

I thought Texas had "open container" laws so how can they worry about tippin' a few......beers before noon on game day

:lmao:

Yes, unfortunatly there is an open container law. Part of the old *blue* laws in Texas (Southern Babtist). FORTUNATLY, Texas is MORE progressive now days, and the SB's are not as prevelant as they USED to be.

It is mostly a *wink*, *wink*, deal. To-go cups are used, and as long as you have no BLATANT alcohol usage Sunday's before noon you are fine.

Blue Lot Tailgate thread for the Bills game (http://boards.houstontexans.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=105744) The Yellow lot has some good tailgating also (from what I hear), but the Blue lot is full of adults, and we are Very opposing fan friendly. Heck, we even fed CowBOY fan!!! Many of the "Blue" lot fans meet at a Bennigans that is right beside the stadium, and then drive in together.

PS: I just inserted my Bull into my sig. It will show up twice in my posts untill I can get around to editing them all out of my previous posts..............so be patient with that. I don't MEAN to have it 2x in my contribution.

How is traffic getting to the stadium. I know they had trouble for the first preseason game - has that cleared up? What time should we plan on getting to the stadium for decent 'gating and not too bad traffic?

As bad as the traffic WAS, :redcar: it is the polar opposite now. HPD, and the Texans have done a DYNAMITE job fixing that clusterfunk. Kimberly (Longhornbabe) has her cell phone number on the blue tailgate thread, give her a buzz, she will be most helpfull!!! She will probably ask you what kind of beer you drink!!

She is great. Give her a buzz, and tell her Vincent refered you. She is the closest thing to a professional tailgater as I have ever seen.............

Where on this map (http://www.houstontexans.com/photos/reliant_parking_map071102.pdf) would you guys be located?

Our tailgate's favorite spot in the blue lot is in zone 23 at the far NW corner. We are in the very first double row of the NW corner. There is a single row of parking around the fence perimeter and we are in the NW end of the first double row parking when you enter the Westridge/Kirby intersection gate. We usually have aj's Texas flag up, Pc's "bull pen" banner with a Texans emblem on each end. A couple of tarps, and a metal picnic table. Several fans get together there, roughly 15-20 total. Would love for any of the MB people to drop in and say hi. If for some reason we are not in this particular spot, we shift directly south of this spot to the next available spot. In other words if we aren't in the very first double parking row, we go to the second double row of parking but stay on that end of the parking lot, which runs parallel to Kirby street itelf. We usually get our spot so far though.

Enjoy!!!

Hip operation. *eek*

I still *MAY* show up for an hour early. I can motor some, but I cant take much till I do a little more time............. We may see each other yet.

PC is a postal worker in his 40's and the nicest guy on the planet. He is in a lot of Texan literature. You may have even seen his horn helmet on espn. I have seen it a few times .........

Kimberly is in her 30's and is the ultimate beer lady. What a gal. Livid, and gr8 fan travel for hundreds of miles for the blue tailgate. You will have a gr8 time (as he says). AJ is loved by all. he brings lots of gear. SheTexan1 mothers ALL OPPOSING fans. She goes WAY out of her way to be helpfull to them.

This is a wonderful crowd of people. Enjoy. Dont miss them. You will have a blast.

The Bills gate seems to be in the blue lot also, around the intersection of sections 21 and 25.

I'll probably end up with yellow passes and walk it...

The Spin Rx
10-10-2002, 11:58 AM
get what ever pass you can get. They are not too easy to come by. You may not make it on the walk........... we have an amazingly friendly fan base. You may be forced to eat too much food on the way over.

Anyway, good luck and have a SAFE trip. Be shure to show, and wear your Bills gear. You will be fed better. THIS is NOT Philly!!!! We love to host the opposition. It makes for great fun.

Later, Vincent
