Fiedler intent on keeping starting job

Jay Fiedler plans to fight for his job -- his starting job.

Asked if he would be comfortable in a backup role, Fiedler said: "No, I wouldn't. I've been a starter the last four years. And I plan to be a starter, whether it's here or elsewhere."

The Dolphins' quarterback is vulnerable to a restructure and demotion or release because he has a $2 million roster bonus due in April, and a 2004 base salary of $3.7 million, up from $750,000. The Dolphins' yet-to-be-named general manager could seek an available veteran or top-rated rookie to replace a starter with a career-worst 72.4 passer rating.

fiedler isn't too bad of a QB if miami would just give him a decent OL and another WR.miami has spent too much on their defense and neglected their offense.ricky williams can't do it all.
