Pete Rodriguez is no longer the Seahawks' special-teams coach after coach Mike Holmgren dismissed him yesterday.
Rodriguez announced yesterday that he is seeking employment elsewhere after six seasons in Seattle.
Rodriguez, 63, has long been considered one of the top special-teams coaches in the NFL. He joined the Seahawks before the 1998 season as former coach Dennis Erickson's assistant head coach and special-teams coach. In 1999, Holmgren kept Rodriguez as special-teams coordinator.
After several years of high league rankings in special teams with the Phoenix (now Arizona) Cardinals, Washington and Seattle in the 1990s, Rodriguez said he felt that the Seahawks were just above-average the past two seasons, and the high standards previously set were not met.
