Orchard Park, NY - The Bills today announced that the team has signed defensive back Kahlil Carter, offensive lineman Jasen Esposito, linebacker Asa Francis, kicker/punter Mike Shafer, and quarterback Greg Zolman.

All five players have been allocated to participate in NFL Europe. That league’s allocation draft will take place on February 8 and NFL Europe training camps start on February 27.

DB Kahlil Carter (Arkansas/Southern Arkansas) - Comes to Buffalo after extensive experience in the Arena Football League where he played for the Milwaukee Mustangs (2001), Toronto Phantoms (2002), and Arkansas Twisters (2000 and ’03). Last season, he was the league’s defensive player of the year after positing a league-leading 14 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

Khalil Carter intrigues me he has good size for a FS 6'1'' 192. Also the fact that he had 14 interceptions must mean he has a nose for the ball. We need more guys like that. He also led the league in passes defended. He is a guy to keep an eye on in Europe and also perhaps in training camp.

Here is a good article on him.

Shafer's a real good punter, too. He'll never unseat Moorman, though, unless salary cap issues rear their ugly head in the next few years.

No effect on the salary cap...btw...bills now have 59 players under contract.

Moorman is signed in for the next 6 years, for a bit over a million, I think; not a chance for Shafer.

I dunno ... while Lindell was definitely a below average K as far as TB's and distance - I don't think he was that horrible. Also, we had pretty good coverage teams, so I wonder if his lack of TB's were more a case of us wanting to make sure that we placed the KO in the right spot than actually trying to get a TB on each time.

If were going to end up bringing in another K, I'd rather we bring in someone who can do the field goals than the kickoffs.

While we're talking of K's ... am I the only one that finds it frustrating that Shayne Graham is now one of the best K's in the NFL? I'd rather have him right now than either Lindell, Hollis, or any other K we've had recently.

He's in Cincinnati now and yeah, he was the guy we picked up after we cut loose Arians.
