The only thing I thought of is maybe he'll be used as a kickoff specailist??? It said K/P from the report I read. Or maybe even a replacement for Lindell???

Shafer did both kicking and punting at Syracuse.

I always wondered why someone wouldn't develop both skills. I think Ctraig Hentrich could do both with the Titans.

You could easily make millions in this league if you could punt, kickoff, and hit FGs with any accuracy. That's 2-3 roster spots rolled into one.

The Bills always go into training camp with two punters. One reason is they have to practice the return game. There are too many reps for one punter to handle. This guy is also a kicker. Rian Lindell had some consistency problems in the latter part of the season which might put his job security at risk. If this guy has a big time leg, mebe he can handle kickoffs if he's not accurate enough for a field goal kicker. In short, there are lots of reasons.

Yeah, I don't think Moorman has any reason to be worried.

Aren't they sending this guy to NFL Europe along with the other scrubs we just signed?

Could be. He'll still make it back in time for TC

Yup, I think all of the new FAs are heading to Europe.

Could also be a gesture for the local boy from Syracuse. They need an extra punter in camp, why not give a local boy some love?
Still searching for that offensive rhythm.

I had S.U. season tickets all 4 years that Shafer was there. He's a good punter, but not as good as Moorman, and a marginal place kicker. I don't remember his kickoffs consistently going into the end zone, even in the perfect conditions of the Carrier Dome, so I can't see him on our roster, even as a kickoff specialist.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

either he is a kickoff specialist or he is just a spot to fill on our roster. He is absolutely no threat to Moorman, that is for sure.
