I got this from FoxSports.com:
The team could lose a valuable special teams member in unrestricted free-agent OLB DaShon Polk. He is a good athlete and solid tackler who is outstanding on kickoff and punt coverage. He has played well at linebacker, particularly in short-yardage situations. But Polk wants a larger, perhaps starting, role on defense. That won't happen as long as Spikes, London Fletcher and Jeff Posey are healthy.

I always knew we had talented backup linebackers. (Polk, Stamer, Stevenson) Could we possible move to 3-4 again? This wud get rid of the complications and problems of the ever elusive (at least for us) LDE. Mebe we cud move down in the draft, and grab Drake and Jonathan Vilma, for our 4th linebacker spot along w/ Polk. This sounds crazy, but does ne1 think it's possible?

I agree. At the same time, I've noticed we have played 3-4 at times with Polk as the MoLB. It happened more in 2002 than in 2003 but we have shown that flexibility in case (perish the thought) something were to happen on the DL.

Never going to happen if we wanted that we would have gotten someone else to be our D-coordinator.

Lol, ok, jus wondering. That's wut I thought neway. But do u think Pat is fast in enough to take one end spot, to mix it up w/ a 3-4 scheme once in awhile?

Didn't Pat line up at end a few times with Ted Washington as our NT?

Not that I recall. In some sets, though, he played a sort of "under tackle" position, with Big Ted directly over the center, and Williams flopping to a regular tackle spot-usually away from the TE (strong side) of the formation.
