Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey will wait until next week to decide whether hiring Sam Wyche as his quarterbacks coach is a prudent move given Wyche’s recent history of health problems, the team said Friday.
Wyche, 58, has been in Buffalo since Tuesday meeting and working alongside Mularkey and his staff in what has amounted to a tryout for the job. Mularkey had indicated he would make a decision on Wyche on Friday, but that did not happen.
Since leaving the NFL in 1995, Wyche has battled a rare heart condition in which the heart is weakened by lack of oxygen. Medication has gotten the condition under control, Wyche said. He also had one of his vocal cords accidentally cut during surgery.
