I want to know everyones oponions on what to do with Defensive end.....

Let Denney and Kelsay battle it out, or get someone new in here like Kenechi Udeze or Grant Winstrom.

What should we do?

I expect a Denney/Kelsay combination. denney on run downs, kelsay for pass. I am intrigued by Gray publicily stating that he thinks kelsay is going to develop into a good player this year. smokescreen for udeze?

Im hoping Udeze, Schobel will be a free agent after this year if he has another big year can we afford him?

I dont think so, thats why I would draft Udeze as insurance.

I'd go with either Smith out of Ohio State, Udeze, Claude Harroitt out of Pitt (VERY UNDERRATED) or Shawn Phillips out of Purdue. It should be 1st or 2nd round priority IMO along with drafting a QB of the future. Too bad Eli will be gone by the time our pick is up.

Just say no to Will Smith.

Ya, we shud defintley draft a round 1 or 2 DE, for insurance if we can't keep Shobel. Wen was Gray publically saying Kelsay wud become a lot better?

Just say no to any DE in the 1st or 2nd Round of this year's draft. The talent is just not there. Udeze and Smith will not be anything special. Nothing better than Schobel IMO. If you are looking for a difference maker in this draft, you are looking in the wrong place. Udeze is overrated, and Smith is extremely overrated, and will be nothing more than a pass rushing specialist IMO. This is not the draft to solve DE problems.

i am hopeful that kelsay shows us something this year.

i am also hopeful that the bills lock schobel down before the year ends, but he can always be franchised.

i think it really might be wise to go after a DE this year though, because we have several guys besides schobel that will be FAs after next year.. i think jennings and clements will be too, no?

I'm not a big fan of any of the DE's in this draft and don't think they'll be an upgrade over Denney/Kelsay this season. If we end up grabbing Smith or Udeze, I won't be overly disappointed (depending on who else is available), but I don't think they'll be much of an upgrade at LDE and I'd just as soon see if Kelsay can step up.

If we're going to bring in someone else, I'd rather we grab a FA like Hicks or something. Even aside from the immediate contributions ... I think we'd have an extremely young group of DE's if we don't bring someone else in, and I'd like us to have a mentor on the line who can show them some tricks - coaches are great, but players can teach too.

"Bills defensive coordinator Jerry Gray voiced his support of 2003 second-round pick Chris Kelsay, who did not log much time on the field last season and was a disappointment as a result. Gray believes the young defensive end will be outstanding, so long as he gets more playing time, something that came at a premium under DL coach Tim Krumrie. Sources say Gray’s comments were a thinly veiled shot at Krumrie’s rotation system, and that Gray would like to see Kelsay on the field much more."

No way man, Udeze reminds me of a Julious Peppers or Dwight Freeney..... He will be something great when he gets to the NFL.

I would draft him if hes there.

Problem with that is, we have Schobel already performing at RDE. The LDE is usually a stronger run-stopper and someone like Freeney wouldn't hold up at LE.

Ya, i agree w/ u HenryRules, that sounds like a plan. I also don't think that Udeze wud be an imediate upgrade over Kelsay. Lol, we'll probably be discussing getting another DE next year in Feb., cuz Udeze was a "bust" just like Kelsay was a "bust". We need to give Kelsay a second year w/ a hell lot more playing time to reely see wut he has. Bring in Hicks and that wud be great insurance too.

I don't think DE is as big of a need as QB, OL, FS, maybe CB, TE or WR. Give Kelsay (or maybe an improved Denney) his shot this year. It was hard for Kelsay to get the playing time because Denney had to get his shot in his second year. Also, I though the front four as a whole was much more effective when it came to pressuring the QB during the last few games.

I really don't see how Kelsay can do anything but improve, and to a lesser degree Denney. So pass on drafting a DE. What is the worst that could happen? The D be ranked number 2 again?

WHAT HAS DENNEY DONE ? ZILCH, NADA,.....

To even compare denney to smith or udeze is nuts....They are both head shoulders over him talent wise........Kelsay has a shot to improve and be a player..But denney no way... he is a back up at best... With schobel coming up for free agency we better- A. sign him.... B. Draft a guy in rounds 1,2,or 3... or C- sign a free agent winstrom or what about darren howard from the saints is he a free agent ?

I noticed some fans feel smith will be only a pass rushing specialist.... Well at least we would finally have one then..

Top 10 in the NFL in sacks isn't a pass-rushing specialist?

I happen to think that Kelsay is much more of a prospect than Denney. There might be some combination of Denney on run downs and Kelsay on passing downs, but I think over time Kelsay is going to spend more time on the field and Denney more time on the bench. Still, I don't think that Donahoe should stand pat if the right player is available at the right time in the draft. I think Udeze and Smith will probably both be decent pros, though Smith might have a tougher time with the LDE spot. There are other guys that could help who will be available later in the draft. The more quality comptetition at the spot the better.

I think if Udeze is there, the Bills are gonna take him. He could be a very dominant DE, and I think the Bills really want to draft a guy like that who comes from a program w/ such success. If not, then look for Kelsay to get alot more PT next year.

No one's mentioned Ogunleye. Would anyone be willing to part with just our #13 pick for him? You can't really argue with his production and he's been playing on the left side since the beginning. I believe he's the same age as Denney too, 26. I know everyone says he puts up big numbers because he plays across from Jason Taylor, but you still gotta be able to make plays no matter who you're playing with. I'm not saying I want him, just throwing the idea out there.
