In an effort to ease their impending salary cap burden, the Colts have granted veteran offensive lineman Adam Meadows permission to speak with other NFL franchises in advance of his eventual release, ESPN.com has learned.

The Colts have approximately $75.3 million committed to their 2004 cap, are in discussions with league co-most valuable player Manning about a landmark contract, and will need to create some wiggle room to accommodate him and continue to bolster their roster.

Meadows, 30, is entering the final year of his contract and has a cap charge of $8.735 million for 2004, an exorbitant amount for a player who lost his starting job in 2003.

I sure wouldn't call him a bust until McNally works with him:up:

He'd have to be willing to play for a lot less than the 8.7 million he's scheduled to earn on his Indianapolis contract.

plus I don think its very fair for Williams to have two OL coaches in two years and both times they were not very good at all.

Seriously, How can you say he is a bust? He hasn't played horribly. Last year he had no support with Pucillo and Tucker in there. We will see this year I guess.

Why did this guy lose his starting job?

He didnt lose it, but the Colts would like to not pay him so much so they are willing to let him test the FA waters, dont be surprised to see him resigned whent he Colts see that he becomes a hot commodity.

Can he even play G?? meadows that is...

It says at the bottom of the posted article that its allot of money to spend on a guy that lost his starting job in 2003. So again I ask why did he lose his starting job in 2003?

I don't want him he's too old and he's played tackle his whole career I beleive and I highly doubt he will want change now. He will command to much money for his age and to be only a stop gap player at the position for us.

If you're an O-lineman in the NFL and you can't play G. you shouldn't be in the league.

I dont know. He is old, he has trouble playing guard, but he is an upgrade of what we have now. I would like to see what else is out there, but it wouldn't be the worst move to make.

I think if we sign Meadows, that signing would be similar to the Chidi Ahanotu signing. A solid guy who doesn't count much against the cap ... but he should never be starting on a contending team.

I'd much rather we start bringing in guys that can be here for 3-4 years instead of the constant turnover on this roster.
