I know the Draft is way off but I was interested in getting your opinion/comparison on a couple players when you get a chance.

Thanks in advance:

Could you compare Will smith and Udeze.(who would you take?)

I have heard good things about bothfrom sources online and on the radio and I just want to see what an expert has to say on the matter. I am thinking that grabbing one of these 2 would be a good idea.

Neither...they are both overrated. Smith is as overrated as they come. Smith is small, undersized, an underacheiver, and IMO projects as a pass rush specialist, who might be better served moving to OLB.

Udeze is a little better of a prospect IMO, but nothing special either. Udeze is bigger, probably more of a Shaun Ellis type. Does nothing great, but everything pretty good.

Neither of these guys strike me as impact players right away or studs.

Good info thanks BM! I really never saw either play and since it is possible that we may select one of them I would like a little rundown.

Id say they are like 1a and 1b. Udeze will be the better overall DE, but Smith will be a better pass rusher. Smith I think could have an immediate impact with a good DL coach and some guidance. The kid has skills off the charts and if he is told to make a sack he makes it. Thats quite impressive and I like him alot.

I am just not enamored with the DEs this year. I think from top to bottom, it is a very average bunch. As I said, I don't think that there are any difference makers in the bunch. The 1st Round prospects in this years DE class aren't much better than say a 3rd Round prospect. It's a year to stay away from DE in the first round.

Udeze.

BillsMan80, what do you know about and think of the horse Second of June ?

Well, he won the Holy Bull Stakes, and beat the highly regarded Silver Wagon. We'll know a lot more about him this weekend after the Fountain of Youth and Hutcheson Stakes. In the Fountain of Youth, he'll face the undefeated Sir Oscar and Frisky Spider, and Read the Footnotes. The Hutcheson, that same day will feature Limehouse, Wynn Dot Comma, Blushing Indian, and Ghost Mountain who highlight that field. Also, pay attention to the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds. I do like Second of June, and he has shown a lot. Right now, I like Tapit and Mr. Jester for the Derby, but could change real quick.

Good info Bills Man80. Thanks for that update.

No problem. If you get the chance to this weekend, I really like Mr. Jester, you might want to throw some cash on him in the future wager. Was 99-1 earlier today, and Funny Cide last year closed out at 93-1 in pool one of the future bet.

Udezi or Smith?

Simple:

Smith is a pure pass rusher, very polished, very good jump (twitch) at the snap. he's really rather small, and would not be an every down player unless he put on 20 or 30 pounds. He reminds me of Dwight Freeney, though I didn't like Freeney as much as i do Smith... both are about the same size, and i wouldn't be surprised if Smith pulled similar physical numbers in the combine/workouts.

Udezi, a bigger DE, almost big enough to play DT in the NFL, also has a terrific jump at the snap, and good pass rush instincts. He is much stronger at the point of attack than Smith, though his technique is a bit "raw"... Very strong, very instinctive, could use another year of solid coaching and college, but it wouldn't have made sense for him to stay in college another year as he's already a top 20 pick talent.

The thing is this, I never was much of a fan of Freeney coming out of college, i thought he would be a bit of a one trick pony in the league, and it would be a bit of a stretch to expect him to be much more than a 5 or 8 sack guy a year as a 3rd down pass rusher. Well, i obviously was wrong. I feel the same way about Smith as i did about Freeney (though Smith is rated a bit higher than Freeney was in my book as he is a far more mature player than Freeney was).

However, if i were drafting for the Bills and both players were on the board, and while Smith pulls down slightly better numbers than does Udezi, it would be Udezi i would draft, for two reasons. One, he has a lot more upside than Smith. Two, we already have an undersized end in Schobel, and it would make little sense to draft a second, when we could take a larger pass rusher for the other side.

That's exactly my thoughts on that.
