Jim Kelly's `hero,' Hunter, turns 7, defying Krabbe disease

    By JOHN WAWROW
    AP Sports Writer

On Saturday, before the daily doses of medicine and vitamins, before the lung treatments, inhaler and physical therapy, Hunter Kelly will get a kiss from mom and dad and a roomful of balloons.

It will be a time to celebrate first, then the family will get back to the challenging business of day-to-day living.

Hunter, the son of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and his wife Jill, turns 7 on Saturday. It's a remarkable milestone for a little boy who doctors said would die from Krabbe disease by the time he was 14 months old.

Man, oh man! Where do the years go? I was still thinking he'd be 5 tomorrow. Then, again, it WAS two years ago JK went into the HOF. Happy Birthday, Hunter!
Someone said "What's he gonna turn out like?" Ha!
And someone else said "Never mind!"

Jill Kelly was in the birthing room next to us, on 2/13/97. Turns out my wife was having false labor pains, so we got sent home, only to return the following Thursday, for a birth on the 21st.

I look at my own daughter and measure the time that way.

I heard Kelly on ESPN Radio yesterday.

Man that sounds like a living hell- I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy
