    Madison might be released

[i]INDIANAPOLIS - The agent for Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison said he expects Miami to release Madison if he and the team are unable to work out a new contract.

''It's understood that if you don't get it done, they're not going to keep him, that's a fact,'' said agent Gene Burrough, who met with the Dolphins late Thursday night. ``They can't afford to pay any player more than $8 million against the salary cap. That's 10 percent of your cap on one guy.''

Although talk of Madison's release might be premature, the Dolphins have contacted the agents for at least two prominent cornerbacks who will be free agents.

Madison will count more than $8.1 million against the salary cap this season, which has been set at $80.6 million. The Dolphins are $15 million over the cap and must get under the cap by March 3.

Burrough said earlier this month he would not be against restructuring Madison's contract, but was adamant that Madison not take a pay cut.

''I would be surprised if they let Sam go. I expect to do a deal with them and for Sam to finish his career as a Dolphin,'' Burrough said.[/ui]

What do you guys think about bringing him in to replace Winfield? I say hell yeah

Plus, maybe Moulds could spit in his face again.

madison's play has seriously diminished over the last few years.. he is still a top notch cb, but surtain is far better than madison is now.

    what is his age?

He is 30, we could easily move him to the #2 spot and let Clements move to #1. He would be pretty good and McGee could get a little more experience.

But the key to all of this is, he intercepts balls.....Unlike who we will be losing.

as long as he's not too pricey, I'd take him, especially if we lose winfield.

          I'd rather have Law though.

Woo-hoo! Miami's first cap casualty- I'll drink to that!

not sure, but they're 15 MILLION over the cap and have two weeks to come into compliance. I believe Ogunleye is a FA and they'll have a hard time keeping him.

only thing worse than a Dolphin is an OLD Dolphin. he's gonna be a big price tag for someone at 30. not that he wouldnt have a few years left, but....

That works, but only if we bring back Rob Johnson as a QB. Or we could save the money and just hike the ball to a tackling dummy.

Isn't it tampering if you are talking about a potential FA prior to March 3?

it also says in that article that madison is willing to resturcture, but will absolutely not take a pay cut from 8.5 million a year..

                            i read enough right there.
