Jets make an offer for Bailey

The New York Jets have offered a package of veteran players to the Washington Redskins in an attempt to acquire four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey.

However, while their offer is not too late, it is probably worth too little.

New York's proposed package included three veterans -- defensive end Shaun Ellis, tight end Anthony Becht and tailback LaMont Jordan -- for Bailey.

I'd never go for that. Portis is worth more than all thos guys combined. Gee, who could we offer the Redskins?

"We'll send you Ken Simonton, Jerel Myers, and Dominque Stevenson. Can we have Champ?"

If Wash is sending Bailey and a 2nd to Denver for Portis couldn't TD get Bailey for Henry and a second...I'd do that deal.

I'd much rather trade Willis, but I would have to strongly consider that deal.

That's actually not a bad deal for the Redskins. Everybody knows that they only have so much wiggle room with this Champ situation. Their biggest needs are DL, TE and RB. This gives them 3 starters for one. Plus they don't lose a draft pick. Don't forget that they're already missing a 3rd round pick so giving up a 2nd would be huge even for Portis. They're an old team and can't afford to keep giving away picks. I'm biased because I went to Maryland but I think Lamont Jordan is a good power back who fits into Joe Gibbs' style offense.

Granted by WM has no trade value until he plays.

You would think the same logic would apply to Drew Henson but it doesnt so why wouldnt Willis have an value? Potential has value IMO.

If you were the Skins, who would you take.
                            Portis (proven)
                            McGehee (potential)

If those were my 2 choices, Todday, I'd take Portis.

I don't think this is a bad trade proposal from the Jets. Look at the needs of the Skins:

DE Shaun Ellis - The Skins could use a DE to replace a retiring Bruce Smith

TE Anthony Becht - Would be a huge upgrade over Zeron Flemister, Robert Royal, or Kevin Ware

RB LaMont Jordan - Big, strong back. Would be an upgrade to Canidate, and , imo, could become a Jamal Lewis-style runner in Gibbs' system. The locals would love to see him back in town too.
