Few teams expected to jump at free agency

By Dave Goldberg, AP Football Writer
A year ago, the New England Patriots made a rare big-money free agent acquisition, signing linebacker Rosevelt Colvin to a $30 million deal.

Colvin was lost for the season in the Patriots' second game, but New England still went on to win the Super Bowl with a team that lacked star power, but had perfect chemistry.

The Patriots are unlikely to make a major splash in free agency when it starts Wednesday. Neither are a number of other teams - emulating the champion is the standard in the NFL.

"Football is the ultimate team sport. No matter how many 'stars' you have, you're not going to win games without team chemistry," Robert Kraft, the team's owner, said this week.

Interst in free agency seems to vary year-by-year. One year players will be moving from team to team, the next few players of note will move. On a whole though, I think players move less often these days as it's become evident that the team that gets them doesn't feel the addition nearly as much as the previous team feels the loss of that player.

I certainly hope that we are one of the most active teams, especially on the offensive side of the ball

Who would you like to see us go after? Last season, we had earmarked Takeo Spikes as a coveted free agent and one of our members talked to him about coming here at the last game of the season vs the Bengals.
