At a recent Republicans of Color gathering, Erie County Republican Chairman Bob Davis recalled how he saved former Buffalo Bills player Lou Piccone from trouble at the border.
Two years ago, the two were among those returning from a golf outing in Canada. As they arrived at the border, Piccone realized he had left his wallet in his golf bag, which was stowed in the luggage compartment of the bus. The border inspector tried to cut Piccone a break by asking him to name the first president of the United States.
"Abraham Lincoln," Piccone replied, to the amazement of the inspector.
Davis immediately interjected: "He's right. Lincoln was the first Republican ever elected president."
The inspector sent the busload of Republicans on their grand old way....
