Drew Henson Heading Back to the Draft!

Henson heading back to draft...Until very recently most of the buzz around the NFL was that unsigned Houston QB Drew Henson was almost certain to be signed and traded by Houston before the 2004 draft. Of course, if he isn't signed by April 23rd, Henson will go back into the 2004 draft field. For the first time, though, the Henson camp appears to sounding like just maybe Henson will indeed be back in this year's draft. The premise behind the earlier thinking was that Henson would be much better off being able to pick the team he wanted to play with. So far, however, his options appear to be rather limited in that regard as only Dallas and Cleveland have even gone so far as to agree to have him in for a workout. St.Louis did have him in for a meet and greet interview yesterday, but the Rams would appear to have too many other concerns at QB dealing with the controversies surrounding incumbent starter Marc Bulger and former starter Kurt Warner. At the heart of the matter is that fact that Henson wants to be paid like a #1 pick, but as a 6th round selection last April, needs a very creative deal to get around the salary cap limitations that come with being a low-round pick. Tom Condon, Henson's agent, has been floating some ideas about a 10-15 year deal with lots of guarantees down the road, but NFL teams don't seem to be keen on that kind of commitment to a player who has not played in 3 years. In the end, it may be that the only way Henson gets paid like a #1 pick is to actually be a #1 selection.

apparently, he asked for wayyyy too much money and the teams are getting pissed at his agent for that. I can see him getting picked at the end of the 1st round of beginning of the 2nd.

I see him as a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Why would a GM want to waste a high pick on a contract hold out?

It would be funny if he was picked in the 6th round again.

I agree with Dozer. Earlier than 3rd or 4th round is too much of a risk.

Gee. I think someone figured this out about 10 days ago...

Why would Henson sign now, with anybody? He has to fit into the Texans rookie cap for last year as a 6th rounder. If he sits pat, he'll get drafted in the 1st or 2nd round and make way more money. I don't get it.

Tom Condon is notorious for having clients that demand huge salaries. Looks like this time, his demands will backfire on him and his client.

I'd definitely grab him in the 4th if I was TD.

10-15 year guaranteed contract! Manning did not even get a guarantee! Whatever this kid and his agent are smoking the Bills don't need any part of!

                        Check out his resume:

In 2002, The Sporting News named Tom the most
powerful agent in all of professional sports.

Negotiated 23 first-round contracts in the last six years.

Twice in the last five years, Tom negotiated the highest rookie
                        contract in NFL history.

USA Today named Tom the leader in free agent negotiated dollars.

Represents NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw.

As the representative for NFL Officials, Tom doubled their
salary as part of a contract which exceeded $60 million.

Co-Chairman of the $600 million NFL Pension Fund since 1985

I'm pretty sure it won't be by Houston though.
