Is now said to be wavering and ESPN is running a new article stating that Winfield walked away from negotiations for what he called "personal reasons." Yeah, right...a few million personal reasons...I'm sure! He isn't worth it!

Don't take it personally. It's just the result of a lot of people making stories up.

The Houston Texans were also pursuing Winfield and, during the course of negotiations with the Jets, continued to try to contract him on his cell phone.
I wonder if this had something to do with it.

What the heck is Winfield's problem? Seriously, a team throws you a huge deal with 10 million up front and you have to "think" about it. What thinking is involved? Does he really think another team is waiting on his doorstep with Champ Bailey type cash, because that's what it looks like to me.

i hope he goest to minny, so that the vikes will stop considering the moss for ogun/madison trade.

I noticed that the report listed his reason for backing out as "personal reasons." I honestly think this means that, although he was offered a huge contract, he wants to be on a winner. The Jets are, imo, definitely worse then the Bills and I think Winfield realized that he was about to accept a contract with a team no better then the Bills.

:jawdrop:

The Jets thought it was in the bag - a six-year, $30 million contract for the Bills' Antoine Winfield, arguably the top free-agent cornerback. After two days of intensive negotiating, the two sides had agreed in principle yesterday to the deal. There already was talk of introducing him today at a news conference.

Then, late last night, Winfield was stricken with a case of cold feet. He walked away from the Jets' proposal and was expected to leave immediately for a visit with the Vikings, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

I heard he backed out because his wife expressed uncertainty on whether she wanted to move to Long Island.

At any rate, he is in Minnesota today and the Texans and Dolphins are very interested as well.

The Jets are getting grilled in NY, where the take is it is another FA mistake by GM Terry Bradway.

"The franchises that liked Winfield in free agency pointed out that opponents didn't often throw his way, but in fact the former Ohio State star does not have good hands and does not often jump in front of a pass route"

Duh.

"personal reasons" could mean Winfield's more interested in playing for Cottrell, his old DC. TC just got canned by the Jests and they both want the same player - I could see how that could get "personal"

Personal my a$$, you don't turn down 10 million guranteed and 30 million over 5 years, especially when you are a corner with 6 ints in the last 5 years. This might turn out to bite AW in the rear end.

Winfield, I think will be reunited with Cottrell down in Minn.

Has he rejected the offer or is he just looking at other options before making the final choice?

Well, I guess we all know where AW's balls are now...in the bottom of his wife's purse. Small wonder he couldn't hold onto a football, since he can't even hold on to his own; or so it seems.

I wouldn't move to long island either. My wife's from there but most of her family moved upstate (thank god!!). We still have to go there now and then and I absolutely hate that place.
