With how the Vikes wanted him so bad, I don't think he will leave them hanging with the pen still in their hands

Cornerback Antoine Winfield agreed to a $35 million, six-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, less than a day after backing out of a deal with the New York Jets.

Winfield's agent, Dan Yost, said the agreement includes a $10.8 million signing bonus.

Winfield, who spent his first five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, was considered the second-best cornerback on the free-agent market this year, behind Champ Bailey, who was dealt from Washington to Denver this week....

No wonder they wouldn't talk with TD. But how can you blame AW when they throw that kind of maney at him.

After an 11th-hour sales job that coaxed him out of a verbal agreement with the New York Jets, the Minnesota Vikings have addressed their biggest need in free agency, coming to terms with cornerback Antoine Winfield, a team source confirmed Friday.

Winfield, formerly with the Buffalo Bills, will receive a six-year deal from Minnesota that is worth just shy of $35 million. The deal includes a $10.5 million signing bonus.

Winfield on Thursday night nearly signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Jets, including a $10 million up-front bonus. But Vikings officials pleaded with him to at least visit Minnesota on Friday, and then sent a private jet to pick up him, his wife and agent and bring them to the Twin Cities late Thursday night.

It doesn't surprise me but it does make you wonder how a guy who is 5' 9" tall, plays 10 yards off the WR and has 6 INTs in 5 years get a contract like that...

I'm glad he's in Minny instead of NY. I'm also glad TD did not give him that kind of $. Thats crazy money for his talents. He's good, not great and even if he was the best corner in the league I wouldn't pay a corner that kind of money. It's about the pass rush. Give me a killer pass rusher and you will see how much better your d-backs become. You pay that kind of money to superstar skill position players and pass rushers, not corners. Good job by TD holding his ground and not giving in.

just curious, eyedog. When TD came to town, one of the things he said was you build a team around two shut-down corners and a passrushing DE.

So tell me ... how is he "holding his ground"?

Is that what he said because I don't recall that. Also you mean to tell me Winfield is worth the money he got, answer hell no.

AW is not a shut down corner, he does not scare anyone, and will get jumped over in every fade to the corner, especially in the end zone.

Our only weakness on D was a lack of turnovers, we have back up corners who can intercept the ball better than AW. We won't miss him.

To answer your question, as many have stated, AW is in no way a sut down corner. again he is a "good corner not great". Deion was a shut down corner who could take another teams best receiver out of a game completely and cut the field in half. Thats the type of corner you pay that kind of money too. You also pay that type of money to a Bruce Smith type pass rusher, not a "good" corner. You don't wreck your salary cap, ala John Butler with a stupid overpriced signing like that, especially when there will be some key free agents coming up in the near future.
TD is " holding his ground" with not paying that stupid salary. Let Minny do it.
PS. How's your boy Pennington ? Coming back to earth a little this past year ?
