If we don't get Vincent, we may have to compete in the Sam Madison sweepstakes:

According to sources close to the team, the Eagles are watching the negotiations between the Dolphins and veteran cornerback Sam Madison very closely.

Miami has asked Madison - who is signed through 2007, has a base salary of $6.3 million and a salary-cap number of $8 million for 2004 - to take a $2 million paycut. His agent has countered with a restructuring that would lower Madison's salary-cap number, but not reduce his pay.

Word out of Miami is that if something is not agreed upon soon, the team will release Madison. Were that to happen, the Eagles would be one of his most ardent pursuers.

Madison, 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, will turn 30 next month, which makes him a little older than the Eagles like. But the ranks of cornerbacks are getting thin, and the Eagles may be willing to compromise.
