Jeff Morrison was on WNSA and he said that the Bills are getting a visit from QB Billy Volek today. He is in town and will be working out for Buffalo.

I like what I have seen from him so far. I would not mind getting the QB issue taken care of before the draft so we can concentrate on other positions!

i look at him as i do drew henson, unproven.

Yeah, I think we need a proven guy, like McNair, Manning, McNabb!

Exactly who are we going to get that's "proven?"

Everyone is unproven until they get a chance

That's why I would be VERY happy if they signed him today. Then we don't have to worry about the Big Ben or Rivers talk anymore and can draft a player who will help us immediately, in the first round. :D

like Roy williams, who i believ will be there at 13 with Reggie williams' stock rising and the Jets trading for McCareins.

Rivers aint exactly proven, but id take him over Volek in a heartbeat.

He beat the snot out of us and he's "unproven"? Boy, we must really suck then.

Why? Volek is young and has NFL EXPERIENCE....That's a huge difference from a rookie

If the price is right, then the risks are considerably less than drafting a guy and expecting him to be an immediate, competent backup. If or when Volek would become the starter, the transition should definitely go a lot smoother than from Kelly to Collins.

We sign Volek you can look for us to still take a QB in the later rounds...Kent anyone??

It's not like Volek is that young he already is 27. I would rather us look at a QB in the first 3 rounds. In just 3 years Volek will be 30 an dwe will again be looking at a QB.

great point spaz...

3 years down the road.. we are dealing with the same issue as bledsoe.

No way. A QB can play way past 30.

We can still take a QB later in the draft.

While I'm not a huge Volek fan, his signing (at a reasonable price, of course) would do two positive things: 1) Provide a ready-to-play replacement if anything were to happen to Drew; and 2) Preclude us from having to draft a QB, allowing us to address other needs - including CB at the rate things are going.

So, draft a mid rounder to groom.

Bledsoe is what 31 with 10 or so years of experience and Volek is 27 with less than 10 games worth of experience. I want a QB who is going to here for a while and if he can't start right away learn on the bench for a year or 2 and when he comes in and starts he will be 23-25 with plenty of time to possibly get better.

He can be our Jake Delhomme.

Who cares how old Bledsoe is? He doesn't stink because of his age.

This move is surprising considering the wealth of QB talent in the draft. Perhaps with a relatively experienced QB, TD is trying to put pressure on ConcreteMan.

You made the point youselft. Bledsoe is an "old" 31. He has had the crap beat out of him for 10 years. Volek is a "young" 27 having only played in a few games

That is not my point I want a QB who is going to be here for a while and when Volek is 30 we're in the same boat, that is my point.

Volek would be able to be here for a while if he played well. Bledsoe is not going to last into his mid 30's because he has been beat to hell already.

QB's that don't stand there like a statue and take a beating every play can last into thier late 30's. Rich Gannon?

Jan Reimers

I would think that Volek, at 27(?), would be our QB solution for the mid to long term, such that we wouldn't have to take a QB in THIS draft. Unless someone we love falls a long way, I am leary of taking our QB of the future in a late round.

I just figure with Sam Wyche and Tom Clements here a younger QB would get more out of them then a QB who is already set into his own thing IMO.

You don't think Bledsoe is set in his own thing? I thought those guys were gonna fix him. They may has well cut him if vet Qbs can't be taught

Tom Clements and Sam Wyche just got here and I doubt they will fix Bledsoe more like help. With a younger QB he can be molded.

Get it done TD! Make him an offer he can't refuse. Then the next day, cut Bledsoe.

Why wait a day. Cut him as soon as they sign Volek

So the lovers can put up a spirited, entertaining argument for 24 hours about how Bledsoe will start, while Volek backs him up.

Except to the bench if Volek ends up here. If we sign him he will be starting by midseason.

Invalid arguement. Bledsoe couldn't play in his 20's.

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? Say, $5,000 Zonebucks that Bledsoe will still be starting by midseason, even if Volek is here. What do you say? :D

Jim Kelly and Dan Marino lasted a long time. Bledsoe's never had a lot of mobility. What do you expect?

You put Bledsoe in the same class as Kelly and Marino

They also never took near the hits Statue does. Marino was rarely sacked. He was a master at getting rid of the ball.

If they sign Volek, they will also draft a QB in the 3rd round or so and he will also be here for the future. If they sign Volek it's to get rid of Van Pelt and have a backup to Bledsoe for this year and just maybe, he can replace Bledsoe. I'm sure the new coaching staff can see that we don't have a reliable backup who can come in and win a couple of games if Bledsoe goes down. Why do you think that AVP was on the bench while we struggled last year? It was because he's not good enough. I like the move and hope the Bills pull it off.

They're all 2 pocket QBs...didn't say they were in the same class.

Kelly took a lot of hits but he's built like a LB...they bounced off him. Marino had the quickest release probably in the history of the NFL.
