I feel Bad for "The Pill"

I bet they were looking for any little thing just to clear a little cap room and make Buffalo more attractive to Volik.

Bye Pill :sadwalk: You may have not been the best player but you were a team player and a good person

Pride

Volek is a great backup... and he probably knows that if DB sucks next year, he will get a shot

I still say we draft a QB... then next year, they all duke it out for #1 and #2, if DB isnt #1, he gets cut.

At least he made a few million in a backup role... he should have a good life. He may even pickup as a number 3 somewhere

I believe AVP just had surgery. Off coarse he'd fail a physical.

He's the only Bill that I have a Birthday Card from. My folks saw that he was having an autograph session about 5 years ago while at a Mall in Rochester and had nothing with them for him to sign. They bought a birthday card and asked him to sign it. He told them that he had never been asked to sign a birthday card before. I thought that it was very cool and original. I'll miss him, but it's time for some new blood at QB.

Failing the physical is a suprise, but I'm not suprised to see AVP go. I think that was the plan all along. Eliminating him now makes it easier because it's looks as if the Bills had no choice. Honestly, I don't think they do. It's time to move on. Thanks for the years AVP.

Umm Donahoe didn't draft Flowers. Bledsoe isn't a good move right now. Posey starts so what's your beef there, Prioleau and Reese are depth players who we had to sign to fill the FS gap and Wire is probably the starter there now.

DRINK ONE FOR AVP TONIGHT!!!!!!! CLASS ACT WHO LEARNED FROM THE BEST....JIM KELLY. I WANTED AVP TO START UNTIL WE GOT DREW AND I THINK HE DID GREAT CONSIDERING HIS LACK OF PHYSICAL GIFTS AND LETS NOT FORGET HE OWNS MOST OF THE QB RECORDS AT PITT (NOT MARINO). I LOVE YA ALEX!! HOPE THE RUMOR ABOUT THE BROADCASTING IS TRUE.

Agreed. Most will disagree with me but I don't think we ever saw his potential. If he had truly had the full support of the front office to start and not just backup (thus raising his confidence level), I think people would have been surprised.

I'd like to see him stay on in some way, maybe eventually QB coach.

Cheers AVP. :)

Failed a physical in March? My guess is the "Pill," for Pillsbury Doughboy, is just a little too doughy around the middle. Seriously, this can't be a big surprise. AVP is never going to be able to do much more than play out a game if the starter gets injured. He's not capable of helping the team win a streak of games if the starter is out for an extended period.

TD is serious about finding a QB of the future. I think he's going pretty hard after Volek, because there are only 4 QBs in the draft that have any potential of being near term starters in the NFL, and TD wants to hedge his bet that Bledsoe will pull out of his season long funk of last fall. Two of those will probably be long gone by the time Buffalo picks. The third, Rivers could be gone.

The Bills save $600K by cutting AVP...however, when you move the next salary ($305K) into the 51st spot the actual savings is only $295,000.

DantheMan- you completely blow off the fact he took over a franchise that was in complete cap dissarray.

He made some very tough decisions o who stayed (Pat willliams, Moulds, and Ruben) and who had to go because we could not get them under the cap (Flutie, RJ, Wiley, Cowart, ....many more)

The Bills had to start from scratch. His Coaching choice didn't pan out- but at the time most people weren't up in arms.

He drafted brilliantly in 2001, had a very good 2002 draft, might have pulled a rabbit out of the hat with McGahee in 2003 (in a very bad, weak year for the draft)- we will see.

Bledsoe- a the time, looked like a solid move- unless you really wanted Jeff Blake- there were not any other choices. His poor choice of a coach compounded the issue. With Mullarkey- he should rebound

Price- Played this one Brilliantly. Got the Bledsoe pick back and then got McGahee- . There was no way this team could get spikes and Milloy by keeping Price- who wanted out anyway.

In FAcy, he's hit home runs with the big dollar FA's. Fletcher & pro Bowler Spikes, Milloy.....Posey has also been a solid contributor. For crying out loud- they went from worst to almost first in league defense. Yeah- some cappy choices there...

The marginal FA's have been spotty- but for the price and compared to who was out there- he's par for the course. Guys like Eddie Robinson were stopgap measures anyway.

Teague hasn't been the dismal failure some have suggested- he's playing a position that he was not signed for.

Now that we have the coach in place- this team will take off.

If you think Tom Donahoe is so bad- please point out the bad moves he's made and give me a rational argument why he "sucks".

I have to wonder how his career would have gone had he not suffered that injury to his throwing shoulder in his second play of the 97 preseason. :sadwalk:

I still say he would've taken the starting job that year. :madcurse:

I'd get a kick if they made some room for AVP on the coaching staff. The guy has seen just about every offensive scheme known to man. Offensive Quality Control?

A friend of mine just signed a contract with the Myrtle Beach Stingrays of the NIFL. Four year starter at a DII school. It ain't the big time, but he's happy as hell to be playing pro football. I'm sure AVP has few regrets. I wish him well.
