    Hard life inspires cornerback to make a difference

    KAHLIL CARTER is a cornerback who knows his way out of a tight corner. The 27-year-old has finally made it to the NFL, having been allocated to the Scottish Claymores from the Buffalo Bills, but the grim catalogue of his life exper iences both on and off the field since leaving South East Washington DC aged 11 could hardly contrast more from the conveyor belt of manicured millionaire rookies that benefit from the NFL draft each season.
    Off the field, Carter grew up in a family where his father was absent and his mother Linda was a substance abuser, and he was left attempting to keep his brothers and friends from getting caught up in gangland shootings in their new home of Little Rock, Arkansas.
