Excellent Devin...I was sold on him before...You had me at Hello:)

Devin

lol glad you enjoyed, i was mainly trying to bring to light unknowns about him, perhaps give people a little more insight then just "his unorthodox delivery".

Well said but you forgot one knock, his inability to win the big game during the season, there is no doubt he can win the bowl games against obvious lesser competition but what about the Fla St. game or the Ohio St. one...I like Phillip alot but hes got problems just like any other QB in the draft, and dont tell me its lack of talent, he had a very talented Jericho Cotchery and TA McLendon helping him

Every team has a go to guy.

Devin
03-25-2004, 03:11 PM
I didnt put that in because i didnt think there was much weight to the theory.

Every QB from Kelly to Bledsoe to Elway has lost a big game....or 4.

Whether your a great reciever or a sub-par one Rivers will find you. He WILL find the open man. I say it till im blue in the face.

You cant tell me that its not at least a question in your mind?? Yea he won his bowl games convincingly but against worse teams. Its one of only 2 knocks i see aside from his throwing motion.

Devin

I can honestly tell you that its not a concern. I guess thats more of a gut feeling sort of thing on my part, but I truly believe hes smart enough, not to mention hes a student of the game he thrives on learning more about his position and bettering his game.

Sounds good enough for me, I just wanted to make sure you werent gonna give me some lame excuse about how his talent sucked or TA was hurt during the game. I hope im wrong but my gut says he wont be the star of this class of QB's

Devin
03-25-2004, 06:12 PM
Naw he deffo had the talent, its hard to say who will be a star. Imo the best of the best maybe Ben.

But in the 83 class you had marino, elway and kelly. So I mean even whomever you consider the worst of that class is still a HOF QB.

In other words even if hes 2nd or 3rd best I think he has the drive and maturity to go the distance.

there were 6 QBs drafted in that first round so it's not like there weren't some misses as well as those HOF QBs

sry my implication was that they were looked at as the top 3 (similar to eli, ben, rivers) and the other 3 were looked as say a (Losman, Harris, Mauch) would be in lower rounds.

well...I wasn't following football way back then but if that's the case, why did Marino last til the end of the round?

Devin

Marino is very similar to Rivers (well young Marino) as my article states. I think you could probably compare Rivers to Marino they way scouts have in this years draft.

Come on Draftboy did you do any research on Rivers college games...he beat FSU 2 out fo the 4 years that he was there...and they lost this year in 2OT...and lost to Ohio State this year in 3OT....with a much less talented football team than FSU had...and if you knew anything about NCSU football TA was hurt or playing hurt the majority of the past two seasons...its not an excuse its a fact and he still managaed to beat FSU twice....once in Tallahassee...4 Bowl games and 4 wins and 4 mvps ... come on are you kidding me... you knocking this kids ability to win the big one...one was a thrashing of a good Notre Dame team in the 2002-2003 season...all this kid does is show up in the big games...

David Klingler was another if I remember correctly...

There was one other besides the Big Three that did "okay"....just cant remember who...

O'Brien ended up being a solid starter for a few years.

Amen to that brotha!

In researching the article one of the consistent things I found was people saying hes great under pressure, he actually plays better the tougher things get.

I love any QB who actually functions better under pressure.

I'd be very happy with us picking Rivers, but I don't think he gets past the Steelers. I hope Ben doesn't go in the top 5, cus that would really work to our advantage shaking up the draft with QB's

when was Kosar drafted?

Devin
03-26-2004, 08:51 AM
Kosar was 85 I think.

Spaz he played decent, average nothing special but not the worst.

He didn't play like a 1st rounder though is what I was getting at.

Devin

he had longevity, and was pretty reliable. If your insinuating he didnt play like marino, elway or kelly...yes thats correct.

O'Brien played for the Jets for some years and was a capable yet unstellar QB. Still, he was far from being a bust like Shuler, Leaf, etc. Eason played for the Pats, but I don't remember how well. No clue on Blackledge....

Just an article to provide more insight into the guy didnt mean for it to turn into a debate about QB busts 21 years ago.

Was hoping to provide more insight into Rivers and sort of give a bit better explanation why i like the kid.

He passed for 450 yds against FSU, they lost because T. A. Mclenden got hurt... I think he did his part.

The lesser talent excuse will no longer apply within the ACC.
