Im surprised the Patriots arent getting the Monday night game. Usually the team that wins the Superbowl gets the 1st Monday Night game of the season.

The past 3 seasons the NFL and Monday Night Football have officially kicked off the season with a special Thursday night prime time game.

Each year the NFL's premiere teams are featured. It was the Giants in 2001 (after their SB), Rams in 2002 (after theirs) - the Pats in 2002 were on the Monday version of MNF that week.

The Giants and the 49ers played in 2002 and the Jets and Skins played last year.

Unless I'm missunderstanding you?

I remember the Giants / Denver right after the SB - didn't Ed McCaffrey have one of those Theisman -like broken legs in that game?

Usuallly the NFL will put one of their league darlings on either the Thursday night or Monday night openers. I think The Jets/Skins were put up because it was the New York market plus of all the Skins raiding of the Jets roster
