Moorman Has Kicked His Career Into High Gear

In a disappointing season for the Bills, third-year punter Brian Moorman was one of the bright spots.

A Pro Bowl alternate for the second straight season, Moorman's 44.6-yard average ranked second in the AFC (Oakland's Shane Lechler, 46.9) and tied for third in the NFL (Carolina's Todd Sauerbrun, 44.6). In net putting, Moorman's 37.1-yard net was third in the AFC and tied for fourth in the NFL.

Not bad for a guy who was twice cut by the Seattle Seahawks and spent two years kicking in NFL Europe before landing a job with the Bills in 2001.

"More than anything I want to be effective for this team and put the defense in a good position, which in turn will hopefully put the offense in a good position," said Moorman.

Although his career average of 42.83 yards on 231 punts ranks #1 in franchise history and his 44.56-yard average in 2003 was the best in team history, Moorman is quick to point out that a punter can't be measured by just one statistic.

You know its a slow time of year when an article is published about a punter and we actually read it...

I remember when a lot of Bills fans thought he was terrible because he had the "tired leg."
