There's some Czech dude sniffing around North Bay trying to set up a spring minor-pro team here. Apparently this dude has players signed already, he's just trying to cut a deal with the city for use of the arena.

There are supposed to be teams in;

Vancouver Vancouver Seals
Edmonton Edmonton Wolverines
Regina Regina Chiefs
Saskatoon Saskatoon Warriors
Thunder Bay Thunder Bay Lakers
North Bay North Bay Miners
Hamilton Hamilton Mustangs
Quebec Quebec Voyageurs
Montreal Montreal Musketeers
Saint John Saint John Mariners

Our mayor has told the guy to get stuffed. If he wants to locate here, he's welcome, but our ice goes out in our 5000 seat arena at the end of April, so the team would have to pay the costs of keeping the ice going until July in addition to the normal rental fees, practice ice time, etc for the arena. He's insisting on up-front payment for the entire contract, although it's unclear if there's even a contract on the table at this time.

Sounds like a good replacement for the NHL :snicker2:

Actually, because it's a spring league, and not NHL-affiliated (like the Amerks, for example) you may find that it'll be a source for replacement players for the NHL in the event of a lockout.
