G-MEN HOPING TO GRAB GALLERY AT NO. 1?
If the New York Giants swing a trade with the Chargers for the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, most folks presume that the G-men will burn the pick on Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning.
A league source tells us, however, that the Giants might be plotting the move in order to secure Iowa tackle Robert Gallery, whom they (and a growing contingent of league insiders) believe will be taken by the Raiders with the No. 2 overall selection.
Al "Count Chocula" Davis is notoriously secretive and unpredictable when it comes to his draft board. Since the team rarely (if ever) drafts in the top five, we tend to think that the Raiders will do something unexpected.
The only sure thing with the draft two weeks away is that no one is going to show their hand. "There is a lot of gamesmanship going on now," the source said. "A lot of lies are being told."
