"You know, I never thought of myself as being second best at anything, but I was always willing to do whatever they needed me to do," said Colbert earlier this week. "To me, I was the starting 'Z' receiver. Mike was the starter at the 'X' spot. And before him, the 'X' guy was Kareem. The way I saw it was, they did their job, and I did mine. And if we all played well, heck, we'd succeed as a team. All I wanted to do was fit in somewhere and contribute to the program."

I like his attitude, and his results. Good second round pick.

I like him although I think he's more of a 3rd round pick.

He's mid 2nd to early 3rd right now IMO

He would look good if Bills moved down in rd 2

I prefer Michael Jenkins

I was reading that article and it mentions that he has better stats than former USC greats such as Lynn Swann, Keyshan Johnson and Curtis Conway????? Didn't conway go to penn state???

Pro Fottball Weekly has him ranked 10th out of 134 and Mel Kiper Jr has him 13th out of 143, Sporting News has him 14th out of 71.

i thought you guys wanted a "speed" receiver that stretches the field.. colbert is a 100% possession receiver.

He runs a 4.4 he is not a 100% possesion guy.

I agree our early 2nd would be a stretch.

Is he talking Madden 2004?

since when does colbert run a 4.4?

did you watch usc last year? colbert was a possession guy and williams was the deep stud.

Colbert ran a 4.4 at his wokout.

Williams is the slower of the 2.

Actually you could say that Colberts speed opened up things for Williams.

well.. your right, i see he clocked a 4.43, which is must faster than i thought he ran.. i thought he was more of a rashawn woods.. but he definately was not used as a deep threat in the games i watched last year.

i stand corrected.

I agree. The guy seems to have a great attitude, but if he ran a 4.4 his name would have been brought up a lot more.

so if he runs a 4.43, and is a great deep threat, and has great hands and a great attitude.. why is he considered a late first day guy?

sporting news has him down for a 4.43.. so he obviously ran something close to it.. but it poses a good question.. why is he ranked so low?

He ran a 4.4 at his pro day workout...

Colbert certainly helped himself in the offseason with solid workouts. His career may be tortoise-like, in terms of steadiness, but the notion of many scouts was that Colbert also had the 40-yard time of a turtle. But he ran in the mid-4.4s in his "pro day" workout, and some stopwatches had him a bit quicker than that, and resolved many of the questions about his speed.

"It's like, I had (scouts) coming up to me saying, 'Hey, where did you get that speed?' and I just laughed," recalled Colbert. "In reality, I knew what scouts were saying about me, and I knew I had to show them something. But the tape doesn't lie, that's an old (scouting) saying, one our coaches tell us all the time. If they put on the tape, they'll see me catching the football, and making plays. It's not like they have to look very hard to find me."

Damn, if I would have waited just a couple more minutes. :)

There are just so many receiver names out there, who knows who we will be able to get. I guess it all depends on who we go for in the first and maybe the second.

Just more proof of how deep this WR class is.

He apparently is not one to hype himself. Always played second fiddle at USC. Guy could be a sleeper stud.

I guess when you're playing next to someone considered a superstar, it will bring down your value by comparison. Then of course you have those two guys from LSU.

Maybe from being overshadowed my Mike Williams? There is not many that wouldnt be...i also agree with the spaz that if it weren't for the depth at WR this year he could be an early second, maybe late first type of guy

well.. the point of this whole thread is that we can get plenty of wr talent without completly wasting a first rounder on a wr that may take years.

USC threw deep to colbert all the time! THe Rose bowl is a perfect example. He was definately a deep threat.

I think he's rated lower because he's only 6 feet tall, everyone wants the big guys nowadays. If he's there in the third he'd be a steal!

I would take him as a third rd pick after taking Big Ben in rd 1 and Ben watson in rd 2

...and the Oline would continue to suck.

Oh wait, we have Jim "Don't expect miracles" McNally to save the Oline.
