i seriously wouldnt mind, all the cap money we would have for next year would make us real dangerous during the off season or resigning period

and all we have to do is put the future of our franchise on the shoulders of a rookie qb. sure we have a running game, but itd be hard to run on a d that could afford to put 8 in the box every play.

Make Drew take a pay cut. It's that simple.

"Drew if you don't take a pay cut, you may be playing in Montana next season. If you take the cut, and look at your stats you need to, well then you could stick around another season."

Does anyone know if Drew has a No-Trade clause? Threatening to trade him to a bottom-dweller might convince him that this is his last chance.

I was originally for this idea, but there's a problem. Drew doesn't cost us anything right now if we cut him. If we make him take a pay cut, that implies we restructure / redo his contract. This means he'll get a signing bonus. That bonus will impact the CAP if we choose to cut him.

TD will wait until May before making any decisions regarding Drew. I hate the idea of going into the season with that rediculous November deadline, but I'll let TD decide how to handle it. Gives me a headache and I don't get payed to deal with it. . . :insane:

Won't happen.

Tatonka, very bold.

As many of us have said, TD will be waiting to see what happens with the draft and the June cuts before doing anything about Drew's contract.

TD could find a decent backup / caretaker starter in June (or maybe Kordell - perish the thought) and go with a rookie starter.

If they somehow got Manning, Big Ben or Rivers - this would still be very risky.

IMHO, I don't think it will happen.

i want you guys to note that this is not a voilation of the truce because i am not commenting pro or anti bledsoe in this thread.

i am simply making a prediction.

i have a question. if we keep drew, and he has a good season up till november, but then plays very poor in a couple winable games in december, that end up costing us the playoffs, what do we do?

lets say his final numbers are 22tds, 12 ints, 5 fumbles, 3500 yards. but going into november, they look more like 18 tds 7 ints, 1 fumble? we obviously have no way of knowing how the season is going to end. so do you just pay him 2 million and tell him that he is gone at the end of the year? what does that do to team chemistry? do you tell him he is staying, renegotiate his 8 million dollar bonus and have him stay for longer? at a minimum it would be another 2 years.. so now we have a high first round draft pick qb on the bench for 3 years making 1st round money??

i just cant see it.

if we draft big ben or rivers or losman.. i am predicting that bledsoe is cut and kordel/rookie leads the way.

I don't think it will happen T. te coaching staff is really trying to ride the bledsoe train plus I think they're prepared to take the ball out of the air if needed. I can't say next year it won't, but this year, I don't think so.

i am not saying bledsoe sucks. but if that would make you insult some more people and get banned from the site, i will be happy to break the truce. :snicker:

i didnt say bledsoe sucked at all. and if you look at what i projected as his final numbers.. that is actually pretty good. i am throwing out a hypothetical situation..

if we draft a qb in the first and are paying him a 25 million dollar contract.. what happens if bledsoe has a good year? do you cut him? or do you leave the rookie on the bench for over 2 years even though he is getting paid alot of money.

that could be a messy situation...

now why dont you and dozer comment on that and stop crying about truces and being nuetral.

Since we're speaking in hypotheticals here, I have a couple of questions.

First, can someone give me a good website for players contracts? I used to use the NFLPA dot org site but it doesn't work for me anymore. I would like to see what the player picked at 13 got last year since this year's pick will only be slightly higher. I have a hard time thinking that a rookie picked out of the top ten would get a 25 million dollar contract, even though I figure you were using hyperbole.

Second, what if Bledsoe redoes he deal so that there is only a much smaller SB in November (say around 3 million)? Maybe even takes small cuts in the next three years as well. Hey, this is MY fantasy.

Lastly, what if, God forbid, Bledsoe has a huge year again and this time the combination of a good running game gives us a good offense AND our defense stays pretty good and we make the playoffs? What if there ISN'T a significant dropoff in his play at the end of the season? What if we actually win a playoff game? Will that be enough to placate most of you?

That's all that would be enough to satisfy me, would be a playoff appearance. I also believe that virtually every one of us wants something with Bledsoe's contract resolved so that it isn't such a burden (or won't be in the future) on the cap.

no.. i am referring to instigating like when a player like kurt maltby cross checks you in the back so that you will turn around and slug him.. then he falls down and laughs while licking the blood from his lip as the guy who just threw the punch goes to the box for a 4 minute roughing call. :D

and your right.. i will stop. it is too easy.

I don't think so. The drafting of a QB will put pressure on DB to renegotiate, and if DB refuses to renegotiate the Bills might be tempted to jettison him, but I still doubt they would actually do it.

Anything I've been able to find (Bearcat's posts on Sportsrumormill.com and the CBS Sportsline article linked from the Zone's front page) indicates that Buffalo prefers Roethlisberger to Rivers, although they like Rivers too. It's been suggested that Buffalo doesn't think Rivers is one of the 13 best players on the board, which indicates that if Rivers is still on the board at #13, the Bills might trade down to try and pick him rather than do it at #13.

I think a great deal hinges on what happens with the first four picks in the draft. There are only three teams that I think are serious candidates to pick a QB in the top 12 slots in the draft: SD, Giants, Pittsburgh. If Gallery goes to either SD or the Giants then it's possible that either Roethlisberger or Rivers will drop out of the top 12. If Gallery goes to Oakland or a team trading up with Oakland, then both SD and the Giants will probably go QB. Then Pittsburgh will get Rivers. Buffalo would not trade up for Rivers IMO.

I don't know if Pittsburgh prefers Rivers or Roethlisberger. If San Diego does not trade their pick and Roethlisberger drops out of the top 4, then Buffalo may consider a trade up i they think Pittsburgh might prefer him to Rivers.

And that, my friends, is exactlly what's going to happen on draft day! LOL
