Two-time NFL most valuable player Kurt Warner, whose career deteriorated over the past two seasons because of a series of injuries and inconsistency, will be released by the St. Louis Rams after June 1, league and team sources have confirmed to ESPN.com.

draft implications?? this should put on the teams with a top 13 pick out of the qb market. :feedback:

How do you figure?

The draft is next week. If you are Pittsburgh, are you going to gamble that Warner will be released, and if so, if he will sign with you?

If anything, Warner will go to a team that either gets jobbed out of a QB on draft day (Let's say the Steelers if the Big 3 are gone when they pick) or even a team that has a young QB or QBs to develop (Cardinals or Giants if Manning is there and they dump Collins)

I'd have said Dallas, but they just got Vinnie Testeverde. He would have been a perfect fit.

ok, even in rd 2 pitt or any other team would be reluctant to grab losman if theyre confident that they have a chance getting warner. and who knows, maybe a team is ready to blow their wad on warner. if that team is san diego, you know they wont take manning...or maybe they will, who knows. nevermind, its just news

That's just it- any team that makes draft decisions based on what happends with Kurt Warner 6 weeks from now is a bunch of incompetent morons.

You don't draft people based on "What if we get this guy later..." Draft first, and if you need a QB after the draft, then pursue him. If you want Warner that bad, then give the Rams a draft pick (or whatever they want) for him and pay the $9 million salary.

We'd go from an old washed up QB who has never truly won anything to another old washed up QB who actually has won when it mattered.

Still, I'll pass...

The article says that Warner has been given permission to speak with other teams. Although his release won't be official for another six weeks, it is conceivable that he could reach an agrrement in principle with another club prior to the draft.

Pass, we already have a qb who's "probably" good for another couple of years. Why get another one?
