Six standouts to attend 2004 NFL Draft

(April 20, 2004) -- They have waited for this moment from the first time they snapped on a chin strap.

Now six of the top college football players in America will watch their dream of reaching the National Football League unfold live in New York City this Saturday -- April 24 -- when they hear NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue call their names at the 2004 NFL Draft at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

The "Significant Six" making the trip to the Big Apple:

Name Pos. Height Weight College Hometown
Robert Gallery T 6-7 323 Iowa Masonville, Iowa
DeAngelo Hall CB 5-10 197 Virginia Tech Chesapeake, Va.
Eli Manning QB 6-4 218 Mississippi New Orleans, La.
Ben Roethlisberger QB 6-5 242 Miami (Ohio) Findlay, Ohio
Roy Williams WR 6-2 212 Texas Odessa, Texas
Kellen Winslow II TE 6-5 243 Miami (Fla.) San Diego, Calif.

The seven draftees represent a diverse collection of talent. They include two quarterbacks -- Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger -- who excel at perhaps the toughest position in sports; two sons of famous NFL families -- Manning (father Archie and brother Peyton) and tight end Kellen Winslow II (father Kellen); a speedster -- cornerback DeAngelo Hall -- whose athletic skills have been linked to a fellow Virginia Tech Hokie, the exciting Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons; a wide receiver -- Roy Williams -- who is considered among the best ever to play the position in the storied history of Texas Longhorns football; and a big (make that huge) offensive tackle -- Robert Gallery (6-7, 323) -- from a small town (Masonville, Iowa, population 129), who captured the Outland Trophy as the nation's best interior lineman.

These six players will enjoy several uniquely New York moments as they are welcomed to the NFL.

I thought Phillip Rivers was going??? What happened? Maybe they know he will not go in the top 6-7 picks. Writing on the wall perhaps? Stay tuned.

If Fitz, or Taylor, don't go in the top 7, we must trade up to get them.

Ben's going to be there now. He told the NFL Network about 3 weeks ago that he wasn't going. That he was going to stay home with family.
