      From the Colts Site
Colts Round Out Roster With College Free Agents
INDIANAPOLIS – Hours after the NFL Draft, the Colts signed 22 college free agents, a move Colts President Bill Polian said all but fills out their roster for the coming season.

The Colts also added nine draft choices this past weekend.

That makes the total players added to the roster over the weekend 31, and Polian said he doubts any significant changes will be made before training camp. The lone exception, he said, could be at quarterback if a veteran becomes available.

Free agents signed by the Colts Sunday evening were:

Chris Bernard (Kentucky, wide receiver), Eric Hill (Colorado State, wide receiver), Skyler Fulton (Arizona State, wide receiver), Romar Crenshaw (Southeast Oklahoma, wide receiver), Ran Carthon (Florida, running back), Daniel Davis (Kansas State, running back), Carey Davis (running back, Illinois), Trevor Hutton (Utah State, offensive guard), Antonio Hall (Kentucky, offensive tackle), Matt Griebel (offensive guard, Indiana State), Ben Utecht (Minnesota, tight end), Derek Kennard (Nevada-Reno, nose tackle), Bryan Save (nose tackle, Colorado State), Jeremy Caudill (Kentucky, nose tackle), Thomas Houchin (Kansas State, defensive end), Nautyn McKay-Loesher (Alabama, defensive end), Josh Thomas (Syracuse, defensive end), Antonio Crow (Louisiana Tech, linebacker), Daryl Dixon (safety, Florida), Stanford Samuels (cornerback, Florida State), Louis Ayeni (defensive back, Northwestern) and Eli Ward (defensive back, Minnesota).

In years past, the Colts have been one of the NFL’s most active, successful teams in the collegiate free-agent market. Polian said there were several players among this year’s group capable of contributing next season.

“We’ll see,” Polian said. “There certainly are some who should (contribute). History tells us four should make it – four to five.”

Utecht, the starting tight end at Minnesota, likely would have been a first-day selection if not for a sports hernia injury, Polian said.

“He may not play this year because he may need surgery,” Polian said, “but in our view, we’re getting a first-day player.”

Carthon, who started at running back for Florida, was pursued by 14 other teams in free agency, Polian said.

“We paid pretty handsomely to get him,” Polian said. “He wanted to come here because he thinks his style suits us. He’s a big guy, and we think he may be a double-duty guy for us.

“We felt it was worth the investment.”

it is hilarious that the colts signed utecht...

the already have pollard. the starter.

they signed dallas clarke in the first round last year.

they also drafted one this year.

I didn't want Utect too much anyway. Just like the TE we got in the 4th, he's a great pass catcher, but below average blocker. Been there, done that. I want Jason Peters, the Tackle disguised as a TE.

i think the colts strategy was to draft an entire new teams so in a few years they can start over with a clean slate as far as the cap is concerned. isnt it like 60% of their cap is with edge, peyton, and marvin?

                          ...and TD has done what?

Sign 22 take them to camp and pick the 4 you like. That's a great strategy. The colts get every guy they are interested in, plus prevent other teams from scooping them up.

Do you think the WRs knew they'd be competing against 5 other FAs also?
