Hat trick puts Amerks in position to sweep

When voting for American Hockey League All-Stars was conducted, Jason Pominville was given little consideration and even less respect.
The Rochester Americans right winger apparently is using the Calder Cup playoffs to prove the voters wrong.

Pominville scored three goals, the first playoff hat trick by an Amerk in five years, and Chris Taylor found the net twice as Rochester pushed the Hamilton Bulldogs to the brink of playoff elimination with a 5-1 victory Saturday night.

The Amerks, themselves on the verge of summer vacation just last week, can send the Bulldogs home by winning tonight when Game 4 of the best-of-seven Calder Cup North Division finals is played at 6:05 at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

”The biggest thing is don’t think about it, just play,” said center Domenic Pittis, who assisted on two goals and shares the AHL lead in playoff scoring with Pominville at 14 points. “Don’t overanalyze, just play. Whether we’ve had guys who have stepped it up or they have guys who want to go home, the key is playing hard and guys believing in one another.”

The Amerks certainly believe. They have outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 in winning the first three games and are riding a six-game winning streak.

”A lot of it has to do with confidence,” defenseman Steve Lingren said. “As the (first-round) series against Syracuse went along, our whole team as a defensive unit, all 20 guys, got stronger and stronger.”

On Saturday, as the Amerks grew stronger and the crowd of 8,486 became louder and louder, the Bulldogs grew more frustrated and, at times, seemingly disinterested.

THE AHL Playoffs Are Confusing now.. Specially Since the new League Format..

2 Conferences, 2 Divisions Each, so Its 4 Divisions Total..

You Get...

1. Division Qualifying Rounds (4th and 5th Seeds In Division Standings) BEST OF 3 Series

2. Divsion Semi Finals (1st Seed Faces Winner Of the Qualifying Round, and 2nd Seed Faces 3rd Seed) BEST OF 7 Series

3. Division Finals (Winners From the 2 Division Semi Finals) BEST OF 7 Series

4. Conference Finals (Winners From 2 Division Finals) BEST OF 7 Series

5. Calder Cup Finals ( Winners From 2 Conference Finals) BEST OF 7 Series.

Rochester Finished 3rd,

Rochester Beat The 2nd Seed Syracuse in Division Semi-Finals, 4 Games to 3
Rochester Swept 1st Seed Hamiltion In Division Finals..

So Yeah the Amerks Are Going to the Conference Finals...

Who the hell are the Milwaukee Admirals? I feel so out of it, living in Maryland. I can barely follow the Sabres. But at least I'll get the NHL package next year to see all their games!
Anyway, GO AMERKS! At least some of our guys are making it somewhere in the playoffs.

When the IHL folded a few years back, the AHL absorbed some of their teams ....Milwaukee Admirals being one of them...not to be confused with thte Norfolk Admirals- an AHL original.

Unfortunately- my Springfield Falcons continue to suck. They used to be an AHL powerhouse a Dozen years ago. (When they were the Indians) Originally owned by HoF defenseman Eddie Shore the team is an original member of the league going back to the 1920's.

Springfiled players in the NHL now-

Manny Legace, Nick Khabibulin, Robert Esche

Daniel Briere, Michael Grosek, Brad Isbister, Sami Kapanen , Chad Kilger, Marc Bergavin , Patrick Derochers, Dan Focht, Damon Lankgow, Marek Malik , Jeff ONiel, Ron Petrivicky, Deron Quint , and I'm sure there are more -
